Lassonde Recruitment Captain – Job Overview

As a Lassonde Recruitment Captain your role is to excite, entice and engage students who are considering joining our School. Working with professors and members of the Recruitment & Admissions team, you will be responsible for designing, testing and delivering workshops and activities of your choosing. You’ll have the opportunity to (1) pick the engineering & science topics that you are most passionate about, (2) dive deep into understanding them and then (3) design and deliver amazing hour workshops to help others discover this passion through you. These workshops are part of our Discovery Day and Summer Camp experiences will be attended by students who have applied to the Lassonde School of Engineering.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a program at the Lassonde School of Engineering
  • Keen interest or experience in designing and delivering activities
  • Curiosity and desire to learn and ask questions and the determination and drive to solve those questions
  • Communication, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, Organize and run Discovery Day sessions for incoming Lassonde students
  • Manage inventory of activity supplies
  • Coordinate with other Captains to design and test new activities and workshops
  • Gather feedback from participants to continuously improve the Discovery Day experiences
  • Connect and nurture relationships with students in Lassonde Community
  • Recruit a team of volunteers to assist in design and delivery of activities
  • Lead tours and on campus experiences focused on providing a student’s eye view

What you’ll learn:

  • Learn to design and deliver activities for a variety of audiences
  • Gain skills in prototyping, design and technical skills (i.e. 3D Printing, Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks, Unity3D)
  • Expand your Communication, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills
  • Project Management Skills
  • Participate in the design and development of sales and marketing plans
  • WHMIS and First Aid Training (Will be provided if not yet completed)
  • Work under the guidance and support of Lassonde professors and support staff
  • Inspire and mentor the next class of Lassonde students

Throughout your work/study experience you will have the opportunity to meet regularly with your coach to set goals and objectives, report and reflect on your progress and get valuable feedback.
